PPB RATING
PPB Rankings

Methodology
How PPB Rating is calculated
PPB Rating is unofficial. It is an independent, league-internal rating computed by Pinoy Pickle Ballers Canada from PPB match results only. It is not DUPR, is not affiliated with or endorsed by DUPR, and does not affect your official DUPR rating. “DUPR” is a trademark of its respective owner.
- Elo-style. Your rating is computed from every Season 01 match result, the same family of math used to rank chess players and sports teams.
- Score margin matters. Winning 11–2 moves your rating more than scraping an 11–9 — the size of the win is weighted in (margin-of-victory).
- Opponent strength matters. Beating a stronger pair earns more than beating a weaker one, and upsets are amplified.
- Doubles. A team’s rating is the average of its two players, and both partners’ ratings update from every result.
- Per division. Each division is rated and ranked separately — players who rarely meet don’t share a leaderboard.
- Confidence bar. Players with too few — or only lopsided — matches stay provisional until their rating settles. That’s the Glicko rating-deviation idea: fewer than 5 matches, or a too-uncertain sample, means no rank yet.
Based on established rating methods
- Elo margin-of-victory method (FiveThirtyEight NFL Elo)
- Glicko rating system — rating deviation / confidence (Mark Glickman)
- Glicko-2 (extended reference)
- DUPR — what a universal pickleball rating is (for context)
Every player starts near their division’s baseline and gains or loses rating after each match based on the result, the score margin, and how strong the opponents were. Players with fewer than 5 matches — or too uncertain a sample — stay provisional. PPB Rating is our league’s own player rating — not official DUPR.
OrganizerIntermediate readiness — seeding aid (Season 01)6
An advisory aid for seeding next season — never a registration block, and nothing on a player’s profile tells them to move up. On ≤6 games, “won the division” isn’t proof, so each name is graded by how much evidence backs it: strength of schedule (average opponent rating, whether they beat a top-3 seed) and any record in a higher division.
Cross-division proof — a solid, established record in a higher division too.
Won the Beginner division, but no higher-division play to corroborate yet.
Threshold only — beat beginners only, 5–6 games, not verified in open play.
